The Buzz: It's almost feels like more attention is being paid to Neill Blomkamp's next project, his Alien creation that will act as a sort of interstitial between Aliens and Alien³, but we've been curious about this particular sci-fi oddity since its announcement. Chappie is rated R, but its trailers and clips make it seem almost family friendly -- let's hear it for a restrained and mysterious promotional campaign. Casting Die Antwoord rappers Ninja and Yolandi Visser in lead roles raised eyebrows, and we love hearing that Ninja's caused problems on set. We also love that Hugh Jackman's character has a cropped mullet. Exactly how this story will unfold as the powers that be set out to destroy Chappie will be the key to its hopeful success; we're thinking word-of-mouth is the movie's best chance at long-term box-office survival.
The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel (2015)

The Buzz: We've heard some grousing about this sequel's script and how it isn't up to scratch, but this sort of comfort viewing is pretty much immune to critique; as "Downton Abbey" winds down its most recent season in the U.S. and reports indicate that Maggie Smith will be leaving the program soon, what audiences might really want is another audience with the Dowager Countess no matter how patchy the continuing stories of these modern-day retirees might be.
Unfinished Business (2015)
91 min - Comedy
Metascore: 32/100 (24 reviews)
A hard-working small business owner and his two associates travel to Europe to close the most important deal of their lives. But what began as a routine business trip goes off the rails in every way imaginable - and unimaginable.

The Buzz: At the risk of sounding like a wanker: broad comedy normally doesn't make me laugh, but everything that comes out of Dave Franco's mouth in the Unfinished Business trailers and clips has connected with me, and I love the idea of Franco paired up with Vince Vaughn and Tom Wilkinson in a send-up of straight white male businessmen. James Marsden smarms it up in a supporting role, and someone behind the scenes here has wisely catered to Nick Frost's considerable following in the bear community -- Frost has been a pin-up in that particular queer culture for years now, and his character in this movie surely dresses the part.
Merchants of Doubt (2014)
96 min - Documentary
Metascore: 69/100 (17 reviews)
A documentary that looks at pundits-for-hire who present themselves as scientific authorities as they speak about topics like toxic chemicals, pharmaceuticals and climate change.

The Buzz: Food Inc. director Robert Kenner makes a welcome return to the documentary film world with his project that is based on the non-fiction by book by Naomi Oreskes and Eric Conway, though I read some initial reports about the doc's style obscuring some of its substance.
